Heritage Centers and Allentown Industries are now The Arc Erie County New York

In  a ceremony attended by more than 600 people on Saturday October 7th, Heritage Centers and Allentown Industries unveiled a new name and rebranded identity. Both programs will now collectively be known as The Arc Erie County New York, reflecting their longtime affiliation with the largest organization in the country advocating for and supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

It’s the beginning of a brand new era for our agency that’s been around supporting people throughout Erie County for nearly 70 years,” said William McHugh, CEO of newly named The Arc of Erie County New York. “We want families to know that we will continue offering the quality support families have depended on us for, expanding some areas, and being a chapter of national and state Arc provides an even greater number of resources to aid in our growth.”

The Arc is a national organization made up of more than 700 chapters across the United States providing key needed services and supports across the arc of a lifetime and across diagnoses, such as Down Syndrome, autism and many other intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“While the name Heritage Centers has become synonymous with high quality services here in Western New York, its alignment with The Arc gives the organization a national status that is truly unmatched in Erie County,” Said Peter Berns, CEO of The Arc United States who attended Saturday’s event. We believe strongly that the agency’s new identity will help further promote and protect the human rights of the people it supports and will also be beneficial in efforts toward full inclusion and participation in the communities throughout their lifetime without regard to diagnosis.”

The name change to The Arc Erie County New York will cover all its programs including early intervention services, preschool and school age education programs previously known as the Heritage Education Program (HEP) and its business division providing landscaping, janitorial, and workforce solutions under the Allentown Industries umbrella. The name and brand change also corresponds with the organization transitioning from their current warehouse-based locations to more efficient community integrated settings.
